Every day social service workers across Scotland make a difference to people’s lives, helping them do the things that matter to them and providing the care and support they need to live their lives.
Social care and social work really is life changing, both for the people receiving services and the many dedicated staff whose values, kindness and desire to make a difference helps make it happen.
That’s why I’d like to see lots of nominations for the Scottish Social Services Awards and in particular the Living the Codes category. The SSSC Codes of Practice for Social Service Workers outline the values and behaviours expected of staff and can help support practice.
For the Living the Codes category we’re looking for individuals, teams or organisations that can show they have:
- creative approaches to promoting and using the Codes and the values and principles underpinning them
- used the Codes to make a difference to staff and people receiving services
- a real understanding of the Codes and what you can achieve by using the values and behaviours in them
Living the Codes is just one of the categories in the Supporting the Workforce strand alongside Bright Spark, for young people aged 16-26 and An Enlightened Approach, which focuses on innovative approaches to learning and development.
So get your nominations ready now to celebrate the people, teams and organisations that demonstrate the very best of Scottish social services.
I know many social care and social workers think they are just doing their job but it’s important to recognise their contribution to society and the awards are a fantastic way of doing that.
Two leading awards initiatives are merging to celebrate the best in social care and social work services in Scotland in 2020.
Nominations will open for the 2020 Scottish Social Services Awards on Monday 13 January.
Honoured for their outstanding commitment to improving lives
